Annapurna region has got four favorite treks, each with minimum of about one week and maximum of three week treks, to Kali-Gandaki basin include Manang region, Annapurna range, Jomsom and the Annapurna Sanctuary. Alpine meadows, moraines, glaciers and breathtaking views of the Annapurna range abound. The three hundred kilometer Annapurna Circuit combines the first two areas by crossing high altitude pass, Manang Thorang-La (5416 meters) and takes up to three weeks to complete.
Dhaulagiri region had got white Mountain, separated from the Annapurna region by Kali Gandaki gorge, the deepest gorge in the world, includes some fifteen peaks above 7000m.
Dhaulagiri region, considered to be one of the most remote places of the Federal Democratic Republic Nepal, has abundance of Himalayan peaks, hidden valleys, high passes and sweeping vistas. Dolpo region is the natural embodiment of high passes, rare flora and fauna, and sweeping vistas, which is enriched by the traditional Tibetan cultural heritage. This region, surrounded by Dhaulagiri and Tibet from south and north, respectively, is regarded as a blend of natural and cultural phenomena. It was opened in 1991 for trekking. This region lies on the north side of Himalayas, it is also a rain shadow area and the climatic situation of this place is same as that of Mustang. One of the longest treks in Nepal is Dolpo Trek .
Dolpo region trek that takes normally 19 to 34 days to complete. In this trek, the maximum elevation will be 4,530 m. to 5,115 m. and is one of the most arduous treks of the country.
Everest region is an area in Mahalangur Himalayan range that includes mighty Mt. Everest reaching the height of 8,848m and its head reaching to touch the infinite sky. Long with the Everest this region also contains other magnificent mountains like Cho Oyu (8,201m), Lhotse (8,516m.) Nuptse (7,879m.), Makalu (8,463m.) and Ama Dablam(6,896m.).The areas around Khumbu is commonly called as the Everest Region. It is also known as the home of Sherpa people and the mysterious Yeti. This trek comprises not only the Everest Base Camp but also Namche Bazar, Lukla, Tyangboche and the whole Solukhumbu, which are at the lap of looming Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world and also the mount Ama Dablam .
Everest region, the trek to Khumbu area is not only famous for trekking and expedition but also for the Sherpa culture. One can enjoy and learn Sherpa culture very closely by visiting this region. The complete trek starts from Jiri to Lukla. Flying to Lukla is the best option for those with limited time. Most of the flights depend on weather condition. However, the helicopter service and chartered flights are also available on request. The Everest Trek is one of the most thrilling adventure treks for excitement-seekers. There are several trekking routes within the Khumbu Region like Kalapatthar, Gokyo Lake, Everest Base Camp and Syangbochhe trek.
Ganesh Himal Region is named after the elephant-headed God of Good Fortune. The Ganesh Himal can clearly be seen from Kathmandu Valley. The Ganesh Range Peaks (Ganesh I, Ganesh II, Ganesh III, Ganesh IV) stand out like crystal, that is the "Great Himalayan Chain" forming the skyline. This great Himalayan massif is contained between the valley of the Buri Gandaki in the west and Bhote Koshi in the east, which becomes Trishuli Khola in the lower section.
Ganesh himal region is enriched with its rich Flora: the impressive display of berberis, primula, orchids and a variety of Ferns, the valleys set ablaze by yellow blossoms of double Jasmine, the forest dense with Spanish oak, blue pine, and in spring time blossoming of the rhododendron set whole forest alight in spectacular arrays of color. Another feature includes the abundance of crystals which is regarded valuable and precious stone. The trekking route passes through quite Tamang villages, hot spas, gorges and glaciers and magnificent sceneries. Ganesh Himal Trekking can be organized only camping. Moreover, you can visit zinc mines at Somdang.
Dhorpatan Hunting reserve is the only area in Nepal where licensed hunting is allowed. The reserve adjoins Myagdi district and Baglung district, just below the Dhaulagiri Range in the west Nepal. Spreading over an area of 1325 sq. kms the reserve begins at 3000 meters reaching as high as 7000 meters. Trees like fir, pine, birch, rhododendron, hemlock, oak, juniper and spruce are available in the reserve. One of the prime attractions for hunters is the blue sheep, which is abundant in the region. Hunters also get pheasant and partridge in vialble populations for hunting. Other animals found here are leopard ghoral, serow, Himalayan Thar, Himalayan Black bear, barking deerm wild boar, rhesus macaque, langur and mouse hare. Endangered animals in the reserve are musk deer, wolf red panda, cheer pheasant and danphe. The gateway to the region is Beni Baglung district mid west Nepal. The reserve headquarters , The time to visit the reserve is from September to May.
Kanchenjunga Region is another famous & non touristy trekking region from Nepal. Literally the Kanchenjunga means crystal clear in Nepali while geographically the Kanchenjunga mountain is the second tallest in Nepal and the third tallest in the world after the Mt. Everest of Nepal and the K2 of Pakistan. The whole trekking areas in this region stretches through and around Arun River whose origin dates back to prehistoric period. The Arun valley is one of the most beautiful regions to trek in Nepal.
Traveling around this part also gives an opportunity to enjoy and experience the traditional culture of Rai and Limbu, the native locals of this area. Trekking in this area is an adventure that is full of enthusiasm, excitement and above all, an unforgettable life time experience.
Langtang region was Nepals first National Park, sandwiched between the main Himalayan range to the North and lower peaks to the south. You will enjoy views of both the Langtang Range and Ganesh Himal. One of the most accessible areas, by road from Kathmandu, the Langtang home to the Tamang people with their colorful culture and village life is beautiful. You will find small peaks one can climb and beautiful scenery, glaciers and lakes all at a lower elevation than you will find in the Everest and Annapurna regions.
Langtang region is easily accessible from Kathmandu. Each area in itself is a good choice for those with limited time. It offers many features that range from culture to adventure. In a week to ten days, any one can visit one of these areas by crossing high mountain passes. A three-week trip could cover all the three areas. The Himalayan views overall are not quite as spectacular as in the Annapurna or Khumbu region, but they remain unforgettably beautiful plus the trails are less crowded and the people are friendly and interesting. The Helambhu-Gosainkunda trek takes one to Gosainkunda Lake - a sacred site for devotees of Hindu God Shiva. It is famous for both trekking and pilgrimage.
Makalu region in eastern Nepal is protected by the Makalu Barun National Park and Conservation Project. Established in 1992, it covers 2330 sq km. Among the 16 mountains in the park, it is home to Makalu, the fifth highest mountain in the world (8463m/ 27,766ft). The world's fifth highest mountain. Formerly a restricted area, it spans five major ecological zones where can be found the lush, tropical Arun Valley, dense forests or rhododendron and fir and alpine meadows that lead to the mighty Barun glacier. From the base camp, anyone can view the spectacular Mt. Makalu.
